We departed Spencer with a cloud of steam and excitement filling the air. A giant, steel time machine, the Norfolk and Western Railway steam locomotive 611, heads our train of half-century old railcars towards the Queen City of Charlotte, North Carolina. Riding an excursion pulled by this beast is an experience like no other.
